Our first Ambin Ubin exhibit outside of Pulau Ubin! TIYA Conference 2025 Gallery Walk

ree

Hey! Here's wan more blogpost!

On Sunday, 24 Aug, Ambin Ubin had its first booth outside of Pulau Ubin at the Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre in Yishun as part of the TIYA Conference 2025 Gallery Walk! TIYA—which stands for Tzu-Chi International Youth Association—held their annual conference in Singapore from 22-24 Aug this year, where many passionate youth delegate changemakers from around the region came together to network and you know, make changes.

It was an extremely wet morning to wake up to by the way; it was such a torrential downpour that you know Grab was going to magically surge into high demand mode (I saw it jump from $21 to $35 right after my first booking got cancelled). It was also nerve-wracking for me as I had to transport all the delicate paper-product displays and Ambin Ubin 3D prototype from my home in the east to the north, but thankfully we (myself and the displays) made it dry and in one piece at about a quarter past 8.

I then proceeded to set up the booth with our potentially iconic signature red batik tablecloth and some bunga manggar to really bring that festive mood along. I also placed on display the same boards that we used for our Ubin Day 2025 booth last June. By 9 a.m., the delegates were 'released' and explored the various booths and displays, along with some curious members of the public, that were held throughout the gallery walk in the open space within the centre.

I had a pleasant time speaking and sharing with them, and I could see that they were genuinely interested in our community project. Some were very occupied reading through the flip-up posts, while others were taking close-up photos of the model. I even saw familiar faces and friends, too!

Of couse, I'm lucky to have backup support by our volunteers, Yingbi and Russell, toward the later end of the exhibit which ended at about 11am. Nonetheless, those two hours felt like it flew by really quickly but I was so happy that we managed to raise more awareness about Ambin Ubin (we even got almost 10 new followers on our IG, yay!)

Right after, the three of us had lunch at Arnolds because how could you not have Arnolds when in Yishun already?

I would like to extend my gratitude to Rachel, who reached out to me on behalf of Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre, for giving us the platform to showcase Ambin Ubin with the delegates and general public.

Thanks Rachel!
Thanks Rachel!

Ambin Ubin will be having another booth at the Punggol Regional Library on Sunday, 7 Sep from 10am to 6pm as part of the Seas The Day Exhibit by WWF! We hope to catch you there (and to launch a new set of posters!)
