The Pilihan (Hari) Raya—Ketupat Elections is a biannual ketupat-weaving competition that began in 2024 between my mom and me. It takes place on the eve of both Eid celebrations: Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Puasa) and Hari Raya Aidiladha (Haji). The competition held during Hari Raya Haji is humorously referred to as the Ketupat By-Elections.

My mom weaves the ketupat pasar, a skill she learned from my grandfather, while I weave the ketupat bawang, a technique once practiced by my grandmother. Naturally, this makes my mom the candidate for the Ketupat Pasar Party (KPP), while I represent the Ketupat Bawang Party (KBP).

The party that weaves the most ketupat wins the "elections", and their ketupat is filled with regular rice (beras). The opponent's ketupat, on the other hand, is filled with glutinous rice (beras pulut).
